How to speed up your Laser Tattoo Removal

Jim Trenholm • December 5, 2017

No matter what technology is used to remove an unwanted tattoo, complete clearance cannot be achieved overnight—the skin simply cannot recover fast enough. However, there are natural and safe ways to speed up the process and fade undesirable ink in less time.

At Unthink Inc., tattoos are removed with use of our advanced laser technology , which essentially shatters ink into tiny pieces that are then absorbed by the body. To ensure this process moves along at a healthy and fast pace, the immune system must be boosted regularly. By including some simple healthy changes into your daily routine you can shave weeks off your tattoo removal. Saving you time and money. Our expert technician Jim  recommends integrating these small changes into your life for faster results.

1) Stay out of the sun

As detailed in our post-treatment guide , sun exposure is the number one aggressor to skin post-treatment. After being in contact with any type of laser, skin is automatically hyper-sensitive to the sun’s harsh UV rays, making the treated area more prone to burns and rashes. If a your tattoo does become irritated due to sunlight, Jim may postpone your treatment until the skin has calmed. This will delay treatments by at least a week or so, prolonging the entire process. To ensure this does not happen. Shield the treated area from the sun using either bandages, clothing or an SPF of 30 or higher vigilantly applied every 2 hours.

2) Keep hydrated

Ensuring you drink at least eight glasses (or two litres) of water everyday also has an effect on how successful your tattoo removal treatments are. When the body is well hydrated it becomes much easier for the lymphatic system to process the ink. Thus the tattoo will fade at a faster rate. This will help with potential post laser itch during week 2. Ice, Benadryl, Aloe have all been reported to help but itching could be as simple as a sign of dehydration. Also, it’s a good idea to limit your alcohol intake during this time, due to alcohol’s dehydrating effect.

3) Stop smoking

Although smoking is a very difficult habit to break. Committing to tattoo removal treatments can serve as a great motivator to reduce or quit smoking altogether. The fact that tobacco is hazardous to our overall health is no secret. But what you may not realize is it can also significantly decrease the effectiveness of your tattoo removal treatments. As the immune system is already working hard to remove smoking pollutants, it cannot process the unwanted ink as quickly. Therefore more treatments will be necessary to completely remove the tattoo. By quitting or at least cutting down on your cigarette intake the body will be able to focus solely on discarding ink particles.

4) Exercise regularly

After the first 24 hours when sweating is discouraged, being active and getting your body moving on a regular basis has many health benefits. Especially for the tattoo removal process. Always avoid friction to your lasered area during any workout. When we exercise blood flow is increased throughout our bodies, which helps ink particles to break down and absorb into the skin faster. Adding a few extra days of physical activity to your weekly schedule will increase your chances of seeing quicker results.
