Tattoo removal is a process—one that requires proper care and maintenance throughout its entirety. Much of tattoo removal’s success depends on the technician and the quality of the technology used. However, an equally important aspect also depends on how well the area is cared for post treatment.

1) Keep it cool
Advanced technology means simplified aftercare. At Unthink Inc. we use the revolutionary PicoWay laser to remove tattoos in less time, with fewer treatments, minimal discomfort and minimized risk. Although PicoWay offers the most comfortable tattoo removal treatments, some inflammation or redness will occur immediately post treatment, along with a white “frosting” effect on the treated areas. While all of this is completely normal, we do recommend using an ice pack on the treated area to soothe the skin and reduce inflammation. If redness or irritation persists once at home, keeping a cool compress on the area will help calm it down quickly.
2) Treat it right
At the end of your laser tattoo removal session once the skin has calmed, Unthink Inc.’s certified technician and experienced RN Jim applies an aftercare ointment, which is offered to the patient to take home as part of a Post-Treatment Care Kit. 3) Keep it dry
For the first 24 to 48 hours post-treatment, any form of physical activity or exposure to water, apart from bathing, should be avoided. This includes working out, team sports, swimming, saunas, hot tubs, etc. In order for the tattoo to heal fully and correctly. It must stay cool and dry for these first few days. Warm showers are permitted, as long as the treated area is gently washed with unscented soap.
4) Keep it out of direct sunlight
As with any laser treatment , sun exposure should be avoided as much as possible throughout the entirety of the process. First of all when skin comes into contact with a laser it becomes much more sensitive to the sun’s rays creating a larger risk of burning, sun damage, and even skin cancer. If exposure cannot be avoided, diligently apply sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher hourly.
5) Keep hydrated
The last post-treatment tip to remember is to optimize the function of your lymphatic system by staying hydrated. The lymphatic system is essentially what drains out the tattoo ink. Once ink pigment is shattered into tiny particles with the PicoWay laser, they are absorbed by the lymph system. Which transfers them to the liver, and are eventually removed through the body’s natural waste process. Staying hydrated with at least 2L of still water, or water infused with citrus fruits such as lemon or lime. Will boost your lymphatic system and keep it working at peak performance. The treated area will completely heal within a week, however the lymphatic system keeps working for at least two months post-treatment to drain the shattered pigments. Keep your body hydrated and the process will prove to be more comfortable and effective.
